As I have mentioned in my past article about Iran attacking and sinking our oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, more evidence is leaking out from the Pentagon about Iran's involvement in Venezuela.
Again, I say Iran blew up our oil rig, what say you after reading this?
The military elite Iranian Revolutionary Guards, is present in Venezuela and this implies a risk of contact with U.S. forces, according to a Pentagon report sent to Congress who had access to AFP.
“The Islamic Revolutionary Guard has operational capability across the world. It is well implemented in the Middle East and North Africa, and in recent years has increased its presence in Latin America, particularly in Venezuela,” says the report dated April this year .
“If the U.S. increases its involvement in these regions, contact with the Revolutionary Guards, directly or through extremist groups it supports, is consistently more common,” says the text.
The text is the declassified part of a comprehensive report on Iran’s military strategy that the Pentagon must submit by law annually to Congress.
Iran has ambitions to become a “regional power” military and diplomatic level, but also to expand its global presence, says the text.
The report credited back to those elite forces directly under the command of Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, responsibility for the 1994 attack against a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires.
U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, last year accused Iran of “subversive activities” in Latin America, and similar terms are expressed by Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.
However, during a trip he made last week by Colombia and Peru last week, Gates denied that Venezuela represents “a challenge today or military threat” to Washington.
Republican Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen claimed on Thursday the government of Barack Obama more attention to the “growth of Iran and the influence not only in Venezuela, which is well known, but in all other countries of Latin America.”
“With this administration is better to be an enemy belligerent partner a close ally,” quipped the Cuban-Ros-Lehtinen, during a discussion with analysts on Iran’s presence in Latin America in the U.S. Congress.
The Venezuelan government has rejected the accusations and says its alliance with Iran is strategic and economic simply to what it calls U.S. aggression.
