In the winter what’s the most important temperature to drivers, mothers, fathers, commercial operations and the rest of America? That’s right, 32 degrees. Its 32 degrees, not 32 degree wind chill.
Water turns to ice at 32 degrees, if you didn’t know, not 32 degrees wind chill temperature. Ice is bad for drivers. Drivers listen to the radio and watch the temperature gauge in their cars to see what the outside air temperature is so they don’t end up wrapped around a tree. Below 32 degrees flesh can start to freeze, blood starts turning into ice cubes and people can die if not covered properly. But more importantly water freezes, cars, people and just about everything else starts to slip, fall and break.
For whatever reason, meteorologists in our country are sending out meaningless wind chill factors to the masses. Yes, wind chill temperatures do affect the skin but to confuse viewers and listeners with both numbers doesn’t help anyone. By confusing they’re doing a disservice to Americans who don’t want to end up on the side of the road in a hunk of twisted metal.
Over-dramatization of the weather seems to be a political scam that should be stopped. – N.P.Contompasis
