Playing Poker With a Politician

From the movie Havana (1990)
Robert Redford (American gambler in Havana pre-revolution) – “I like to play poker with politicians.”
Raul Julia (Pro-Castro landowner) – “And why do you like to play poker with politicians?”
Robert Redford – “I like to play them, because politicians like to win now with a winning hand, when I can win later with a losing hand.” (The skill of bluffing in poker)
Robert Redford’s characterization of politicians is spot on and can be applied to what’s happening to our country today.
Our politicians from both sides of the isle are interested in one thing and one thing only, winning with a winning hand. They now have a winning hand and are in control of everything in our lives, our government and our future. They would much rather spend us into a future oblivion while reaping the royalties of today for themselves.
But, remember what Redford’s character said, “I can win later with a losing hand.” Statistically in poker and in life winning hands very rarely show up, but losing hands always do, and if you can learn the art of bluffing, you can beat our politicians with the losing hand we now hold. – N.P.Contompasis
