The Straw That Will Break the Afghani Back - President Karzai's Brother Assassinated

By Nicholas Contompasis

The assassination of Ahmed Karzai is no surprise to the author, since it was predicted two years ago on this blog.
Even though Karzai was a drug lord he was a canary in the mine that would signal which direction the U.S.'s influence would swing.
After this assassination it looks like any framework of government is about to crumble with an assassination of the President himself Hamid Karzai. When this happens our boots on the ground will have no legitimate reason to be there, thus giving Obama an excuse to evacuate South Vietnam style.
Things are moving quickly in Afghanistan so don't be surprised if this happens in a matter of days.

Ahmed Wali Karzai, the half- brother of Afghan President Hamid Karzai, was shot dead by one of his own bodyguards on Tuesday morning.
The influential half-brother of Afghan President Hamid Karzai was assassinated by one of his own bodyguards Tuesday morning.
Ahmad Wali Karzai died almost immediately in his Kandahar home after his friend and trusted head of security Sardar Mohammed shot him twice, once in the chest and once in the head, officials said.
Mohammed, who had worked for the Karzai family for at least 10 years, was shot and killed almost immediately by fellow bodyguards.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, telling the BBC it was their most important victory in the last decade.
A spokesman for the militant group told NBC News that the group had hired Mohammed "for some time now" to punish Wali Karzai "for all his wrongdoings."
News of the assassination and betrayal rocked Afghanistan, where there's now fear the death could create a power vacuum in the Taliban stronghold.
Wali Karzai, who was in his 50s, was a controversial figure who was alleged to be involved in drug trafficking and on the CIA payroll.
But he also was a key powerbroker in shoring up his family's interest in the south, where the U.S. has stepped up efforts to curb violence.
Hours after the killing, President Karzai - who has repeatedly defended his brother - held a news conference in Kabul with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
"My younger brother was martyred in his house today. This is the life of all Afghan people. I hope these miseries which every Afghan family faces will one day end," he said.
Noorolhaq Olomi, a former parliament member, described Wali Karzai as one of the country's most powerful men.
"I cannot say whether this was political or personal or some other matter," Olomi said of the killing. "But whoever did it, it shows the weakness of this government. The president needs to change things. He needs to change himself and build a government that is real. Right now, there is no government. It's all a fraud."
